Psoriatic Arthritis

Overview

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory condition that occurs in some people with the skin condition psoriasis. It causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling that can affect any joint in the body, including the fingers, toes, spine, and sacroiliac joints. PsA can range from mild to severe and, if left untreated, can cause permanent joint damage. The condition often affects the joints asymmetrically and may involve enthesitis (inflammation where tendons and ligaments attach to bone) and dactylitis (sausage-like swelling of entire fingers or toes). Our rheumatologists work closely with dermatologists to provide coordinated care that addresses both the skin and joint manifestations of this disease.
